Nintendo’s 3DS Sales Up and Down
On April the 11th Michael Pachter (an industry analyst) said he believed Nintendo sold 500,000 3DS units. That beats XBox 360 with 480,000, Nintendo’s own Wii at 410,000 and Sony’s PS3 with 380,000. The 3DS contributed so heavly to hardware sales that it brought an increase of 6 percent in March to the industry.
All this is in contrast to another analyst Colin Sebastian from Lazard Markets who commented:
“Based on our recent checks, we believe that sales of the 3DS have slowed considerably since the initial launch window, although the Easter holiday could provide a near-term boost,”
Eyes are starting to turn again towards Nintendo’s home console offering. Nintendo are believed to be introducing some price/bundle deals to stimulate sales on that front. Never the less time is drawing near for some kind of announcement on the so called Wii 2.

I am sure the Sun ‘reports’ have not helped sales. They do say there is no such thing as bad press, but I know a few casual gaming friends who were considering buying a 3DS but based purely on the reports have decided not to.

The Sun also made themselves look silly in all this. Shameful hung to sell papers. Sorry for the people that take their word on such things.

In my mind, it all comes down to the titles. There’s always that initial rush of early adopters, but it’s going to take some quality, high-profile games for everyone else to justify a purchase.

I would have to agree. Also Easter is later this Year, so that can explain the down in sales.
