Details For Sonic Generations 3DS

Back in the beginning of April, SEGA unveiled a teaser trailer of a brand new Sonic game for the blue hog’s 20th Anniversary, titled Sonic Generations. In the trailer we see modern Sonic, joining up with classic Sonic, wow-ing many audiences world wide. Many were dissapointed to see at the end of the trailer that the game was only being released on Xbox 360 and PS3, BUT it has recently been revealed that it will come to our snazzy new 3DS towards the end of this year! As to why it will not be released on the Wii, head of the Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka has stated that,

“The primary goal for the console versions of Generations was reimagining the series’s classic zones in vivid, high-definition graphics.”

Hmmmm… Project Café, perhaps?

The 3DS version of Sonic Generations is being directed by Tetsu Katano, also recognised for directing Sonic and the Black Knight. Co-developed by Sonic Team and Dimps, this new release will be a proper Sonic platformer. As to why we see modern Sonic and Classic Sonic, a new boss has erased time and space, which sends modern Sonic back to the past.

According to the US magazine, Nintendo Power, the 3DS version will differ slightly to the console version. Modern Sonic stages will play like Sonic Rush and Sonic Colours DS. Exclusive to the 3DS version is its variety of stages and boss fights, also challenges can be unlocked via StreetPass and using your Play Coins. Characters who are integral to the story will only be featured in the 3DS version, and we will also see some slight story differences compared to the console version.

The stages in Sonic Generations come from previous titles, but will feature a brand new layout. Sonic can use new moves, but that depends on whether he is in a modern stage or a classic stage. Classic stage sees Sonic only being able to use Spin Dash, whereas in modern stages we see the Hedgehog using a homing attack, jumping off walls, sliding under obstacles and can grind rails.

The game will feature jazzy remixes of the older tunes we know and love. Doctor Robotnik will also make an appearance despite a new enemy on the scene. Two player race mode will only be available using Local Wireless, suggesting there may be no online play.

Sounds pretty good to me! What do you guys think? Are you glad to see it getting a 3DS release?

I hope classic Sonic spanks modern Sonic hard for starring in so many awful games.
