Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Japan Presentation

With the release of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D only a week away, developer Capcom held an event to formally introduce the completed game to industry figures and the gaming press. After showing gameplay footage, including some of the Co-op mode, the game’s Producer, Masachika Kawata, gave a presentation. He talked about the game’s roster (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Hunk, Barry Burton, Claire Redfield, Rebecca Chambers, Krauser and Albert Wesker), saying that they included popular villain characters in the hopes the game would appeal to a wide audience. He also mentioned that the staple series feature of alternate costumes would return. The example given was that of Rebecca Chambers, who, as a medic, was given an all-too-predictable sexy nurse outfit with mini-skirt.

After the presentation there were some special guests, including Osaka all-girl metal band Aldious. Though not looking like typical Resi fans, they were able to field the questions they were asked about the game with ease. Towards the end of the event there was a tournament for the gathered press and industry types, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places winning either some games, an ipad2 or a shiny new bicycle. Editors from Famitsu, where I picked up most of this info, took first and second place.

As yet there is no word on everyone’s favourite  former Raccoon City Police Officer, Leon S. Kennedy‘s inclusion in Mercenaries, despite his popularity with the fans. However, knowing that characters were added to Mercenaries through DLC in Resident Evil 5, it doesn’t seem beyond the realms of possibility that Capcom should play a similar trick here.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is out next week – 2nd June in Japan, and elsewhere later this summer.
