Nintendo at E3 2011: Coming to a 3DS near you Soon…

Before the big new console reveal at todays Nintendo E3 presentation, Global President Satora Iwata advised that there are new experiences for 3DS this year first…

A great montage trailer of footage followed, utilising the impressive stage set-up to show us new clips of Mario Kart 3DS, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario, Kid Icarus and Luigis Mansion 2. Then Reggie Fils-Aime arrived, announcing ‘we hear you, we know you want something new’, but something that looks like they always have. ‘Is it possible to deliver something for everyone?… This is what we are aiming for with 3DS…’ with 5 key titles available to play at E3.

Mario Kart; Out this holiday season, with tracks that look like a mix of old and new, underwater racing and the ability to build your own kart with custom wheels, chasis and wings. Yes, wings!

Star Fox 64 3D; Lets you use buttons or turn the hardware into the controller. Turn and tilt to control the fighter. Group play brings camera recording of facial reactions that show above each player! Arrives September in US.

Super Mario; Coming before the end of the year for all players. There are 10’s of millions of DS Mario players but this is the first Mario title created from scratch for a handheld device. The footage looks Galaxy quality, with the racoon suit in there. Some side on levels, some top down views. Levels look like Mario 64 theme rather than space though; a perfect mix of retro and new.

Kid Icarus Uprising; With some awesome looking battles and 3 on 3 multi player on the show floor at E3 too. Fast paced action and the potential of playing this in 3D is great! Looks like it comes with collector cards for some AR battling. Out later this year.

Luigi’s Mansion 2; Looks absolutely fantastic and I certainly didn’t see this one coming. Looks a lot of fun, and with some awesome lighting effects that will really show off the 3DS power I think.

We were also treated some footage of 3rd party games coming soon for 3DS, including Resident Evil The Mercenaries, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games London 2012, Tetris, Cave Story, Resident Evil Revelations, Driver Renegade, Tekken 3D and Metal Gear Solid. ‘The library of games is unprecedented’.

All in all a pretty impressive line up I think you’ll agree.
