Luigi’s Mansion 2 to use Gyro controls

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Shigeru Miyamoto has said that motion controls may very well be used in the upcoming sequel to Luigi’s Mansion (GC) – Luigi’s Mansion 2 on Nintendo 3DS. Miyamoto was asked what unique 3DS features Nintendo were planning to use in the new game, to which he replied:

“We’re not planning any AR (augmented reality) functionality, but we’re looking at doing some things with the camera to make it simpler to play, and also looking at perhaps trying to implement some sort of Gyro control.”

Motion control has already been put to great use in last week’s release The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, where you can move the 3DS to aim Link’s slingshot – very handy. It is also going to be used in the forthcoming Star Fox 64 3D, by tilting your 3DS to steer your Arwing. Nothing has been confirmed about how Luigi’s Mansion 2 will use these controls, could for example the gyro sensors be used to angle your Poltergust 3000?
