First look at Capcom’s Ace Attorney Movie

Last month it was confirmed by Capcom that there was to be made a live action film adaption of Ace Attorney games in Japan, featuring the series’ leading protagonist Phoenix Wright. It is currently called Gyakuten Saiban’ the Japanese name for the Ace Attorney franchise.

The movie will feature Hiroki Narimiya as Phoenix Wright, however judging from the first shots released by Capcom, it doesn’t look like the actor will even be attempting Phoenix’s trademark hairstyle. Takumi Saito will play rival prosecutor Miles Edgeworth and Wright’s female companion, Maya Fey, will be played by Mirei Kiritani. The film is being directed by Takashi Mieki.

According to andriasang, the film is currently taking place in the Kansai area of Japan (west of Tokyo, includes the prefectures of Osaka and Kyoto), with a Japanese theatrical release planned for early Spring 2012.

The first glimpse of the movie came from a teaser image on Capcom’s Ace Attorney blog earlier today. Although the picture is slightly blurry, as it was taken from a crew member’s mobile phone, we can see the courtroom which will be a reoccurring setting throughout the movie.

It looks like Japan can’t get enough of the Ace Attorney series, as earlier this year we heard news of SEGA and Capcom teaming up to create an Ace Attorney attraction at SEGA’s Joypolis theme park. The attraction is based off of the main series spin-off Ace Attorney Investigations, featuring Miles Edgeworth as the protagonist.

Are you looking forward to seeing the Ace Attorney movie? A few members of the Nintendo Scene team (myself included) love the franchise, and will be definitely watching it as soon as it is available! Let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.
