New 3DS StreetPass Mii Plaza features by the end of the year

Andriasang are reporting that the StreetPass Mii Plaza application on your 3DS may include some new features by the end of the year, with more games to follow in 2012 too according to Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata.

Currently the StreetPass Mii plaza application on your 3DS let’s you collect all the Mii’s you meet on your StreetPass travels and then play with them in Puzzle Swap and StreetPass Quest. Like me, you may be slowly filling up your plaza, making the most of StreetPass events like the recent Flash Mob at Regent Street Apple store, in order to get those puzzles completed as much as you can. You may also be making your way through the StreetPass Quest too; going in to battle with the ghosts that block the way to rescue your own Mii with all the guests in your plaza.

Whilst some of you may still have a long way to go, others have completed all of the puzzles and the StreetPass Quest already. Some have even completed the Quest twice over too. This news of new content will be most welcome by you.

“During an investors briefing last week, Iwata was asked about the lack of updates for Mii Plaza. Iwata admitted that he’s heard complaints that there’s little left to do in the app. He promised that by the end of the year the software will be updated with some new features.”

“Nintendo is also developing a number of titles that make use of all the Miis that are assembled in your Mii Plaza, Iwata revealed. He promised that upcoming software for this year and the next will make collecting all those Miis not seem like a waste.”

So what do you think these features could be? How are you getting on in the StreetPass Quest and how many Puzzles have you finished? Let us know what you think about this news in the comments below.

This is good to hear. I barely have anything done is streetpass mode/plaza whatever. Not that many people by me have a 3DS and the time I brought it to the local game store, I didn’t get any hits. Anyway, The material, I could see new puzzles and quests as well as maybe travel bingo type game where you get a hit on the board every time you find a hat that matches the board. Something like that or a scavenger hunt that works similarly to my travel bingo game.

How many puzzles are there? I have 60 pieces out of 60 and I was just wondering how you get a new puzzle panel?

I’m fortunate enough to be catching the tube everyday regularly getting StreetPass hits.

That said, having just completed all the puzzles and collected all the hats, I have to say I’m eagerly awaiting an update. I still carry my 3DS around now more to satisfy my own curiosity (to see who I bump into, what they’re playing etc, kinda like very focussed market research!) but that will dwindle and more content would get me excited all over again.

I understand that there are 7 puzzles in total. They are, Zelda, Kirby, Pikmin, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario and Bowser and Metroid Other M. New puzzle frames seem to appear at random for me, as I get more and more for the puzzles I already have. You should find that the more people you street pass with, the more puzzles open up and more the pieces you have the opportunity to receive.

Hopefully the updates coming soon will give us some more, or perhaps something else? The bingo game idea sounds like an interesting idea…
