Nintendo Announce New Look ‘Streamlined’ Wii Console

Today Nintendo have confirmed that a new look ‘streamlined’ version of the Wii console will be released in the UK in time for Christmas.

Described as being a ‘streamlined white Wii with a slightly altered configuration, which is designed to sit horizontally rather than vertically’ the new console will be released as part of a new ‘Family Edition’ (shown above) that includes a Wii Remote Plus, Nunchuck, Wii Party and Wii Sports. Other bundles are expected to be announced in the Autumn.

Nintendo have also confirmed that the new console will lose it’s backwards compatibility with Gamecube games, losing the Gamecube control pad ports and memory card slots from the top of the current Wii console.

What do you think about this? With the release of Wii U next year, this is an interesting move by Nintendo.

I think this will be good depending on price, and how much it is streamlined by. I can imagine that this would be worth it for under £100 if the console is made significantly smaller, especially with both Skyward Sword and Kirby coming out. Played both recently and they are brilliant!
