New Blue Wii Announced Bundled With Mario & Sonic At London 2012 Olympic Games

Nintendo have announced that they will be releasing a blue Wii in Europe on November 18th, and is said to be released as part of a bundle along with Mario & Sonic At The London 2012 Olympic Games. It is also said you can expect more Wii bundles to be announced this Autumn.

The new Wii was announced back in August, which is the same size as the old Wii, more ‘streamlined’, and designed to sit horizontally rather that vertically. The only drawback of these new Wiis, for me, is the fact they can’t play Game Cube games, which is one of the main reasons that people have a Wii in the fist place. Below is an image of the new blue Wii.

What do you think of this new move by Nintendo?

Gamecube backward compatibility is not the reason many people have a Wii in the first place. Most people buying the Wii now never use this feature because Gamecube games are no longer avaliable on the market. It’s only the older and ‘hardcore’ gamers who mostly use this feature.

If you ask the average Wii buyer (parent or casual gamer) they probably don’t even know what a Gamecube game is. it’s a good move from Nintendo, anyone who wants the Wii for GC games already has one and has for a long time.

I know its not THE main reason, I said it’s one of the main reasons, well for me it is, as I still buy Game Cube games on Amazon and eBay, and I love that option to play them as I sold my Game Cube a couple of years back.
