Kid Icarus Battle Squad – London Report

Today saw the first of a short UK tour for the Kid Icarus Battle Squad. Starting at the HMV on Oxford Street, London, the four staffed Battle Squad took on all comers who hoped to win a host of prizes.

If you played in a game against any of the squad members, you won a pack of currently limited Kid Icarus AR cards.  These are in high demand as they are currently only available through the Nintendo Club, purchases of Kid Icarus Uprising itself and through special offers/purchases. Anyone attending the event was also given a very limited edition (only 1000 printed) double sided Kid Icarus poster. Those who chose to take on the pro-gamer Adam (@dignitasRusski) and won, depending on how convincingly they beat him, were able to win copies of Kid Icarus Uprising, A metallic red 3ds or HMV vouchers.

The event was well attended and I picked up sixty-six streetpass hits (with fifty-four Kid Icarus gems) but only a few managed to beat the pro-gamer.  Four 3ds’ were won and nine copies of Kid Icarus Uprising were handed out to winners.  I made the error of being the second gamer to play him, while he was still fresh.  We took a round each and in the decider I managed to smart bomb him for an early lead, only to be caught near the end.  There was only 40 points between us in the final score.

“I tip my ninja-hood at Adam, he played for a solid four and a half hours in order to get through everyone’s challenges and everyone who’s played Kid Icarus knows it’s not the most comfortable of games to play for long periods of time.”

The whole Battle Squad were excellent hosts and it was great to meet Ricky, Lucy, Wesley and Adam. Their next stop is Reading next Saturday (05 May 12) and a full tour schedule can be read here. I’m told that after the four announced legs of the tour, they will be returning to London for another Kid Icarus Battle Squad challenge. More images of the event are available on our Facebook page.

For those of you unable to attend, Nintendo Scene have a copy of the poster and a pack of AR Cards to give away.  All you have to do is follow @NintendoScene and @StealthBuda and tweet the following, filling in the missing word: “I think SB’s favourite #KidIcarus weapon is the _________ @nintendoscene @stealthbuda #NSKidIcarusComp” The winner will be picked at random from those with the correct guess.  Only one entrant per twitter account.  Closing date is next Fri (04 May 12) at 12:00 and the winner will be announced that evening. Good luck!

Did you attend the event?  Are you planning to attend any of the upcoming Kid Icarus Battle Squad events?  Let us know in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook.
