Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Lands on the 3DS Virtual Console this Week

Old Konami favourite Goemon is making a comeback this week with the release of the Game Boy title Mystical Ninja starring Goemon on the 3DS Virtual Console. The game sees you take control of three characters, Goemon, Ebisumaru and Sasuke, as you attempt to rescue your ninja mate Yae from the clutches of the evil Black Ship Gang. It’s an adventure game at heart that features some puzzles and mini-games along the way and each of the three characters on offer have different abilities so make sure you choose wisely!

A couple of sequels are available on DSiWare this week. The Lost Town – The Jungle is the sequel to the popular RPG adventure The Lost Town – The Dust. It looks to be more of the same with near identical gameplay and little added to the already wafer-thin plot but if you enjoyed the first game then this should be music to your ears. Escape The Virus: Shoot ‘Em Up! is the sequel to the addictive Escape The Virus: Swarm Survival and this time instead of avoiding the viruses you get to take it to them! The game has an arcade feel to it and sees you blasting at hordes of viruses with what I presume are anti-biotic bullets…  It looks to be a decent pick-up-and-play game that could well be worth a look if you like your gaming in short bursts.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon

Perhaps you fancy downloading a game that’s a little bigger than the usual eshop additions. If that sounds like you then you may be pleased to hear that there are going to be three new retail titles available for download! Yes, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Art Academy and Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive! will all be available to download on the 3DS eshop should you not want to buy a physical retail copy of the games.

Last but not least this week is, drum roll please, some more Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy DLC! Yes, after a week of no new downloadable tracks Square Enix have added four new songs to the list with three battle stage songs and just the one field stage song. The new battle stage tracks are Esper Battle from FFXII, the Battle Theme from FFXI and Battle 2 from FFIV while the lone field stage track is March of the Dreadnoughts from FFXIII.

All of these games and add-ons will be made available for download on Thursday 16th August. Mystical Ninja starring Goemon is £2.70; The Lost Town – The Jungle and Escape The Virus: Shoot ‘Em Up! are 200 points each (£1.80); and the Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy DLC is the usual 90p per track. As for the retail downloads New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a monumental £39.99 which could put many people off considering it is available for less than £30 at some retailers! New Art Academy is being sold for £29.99 and Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive! is £24.99 which is also quite expensive considering both are currently being sold on Amazon for £19.99. People who download New Super Mario Bros. 2 will receive double star points but is that really worth an extra tenner?

What do you guys think of all this week’s offerings? Will you be downloading any of the retail games or will you be sticking to the traditional tried and tested cartridge approach?
