Gamescom 2012 Summary

Nintendo weren’t at Gamescom this year, but that doesn’t mean it was totally devoid of Nintendo news. Ubisoft were present at the event and had plenty of content to show off as were several other third party developers. So without further ado here’s a roundup of all the Nintendo news from Gamescom 2012.

Most of the Nintendo news came from the Ubisoft conference with the release of a few trailers and gameplay footage. A host of screenshots and a new trailer for ZombieU were revealed showing off different ways to play using the Wii U Gamepad including scanning rooms, aiming more precisely and inputting door codes using the touch screen. The game sees you trying to escape and survive a zombie outbreak in London and even features Buckingham Palace!

Rayman Legends was given a new trailer showing how the Wii U’s capabilities will be used. The touch screen can be used to defeat enemies and open up new platforms for the players to use as they moves along! Rabbids Land also had a trailer revealing how the Wii U Gamepad’s gyro controls and touch screen would be used in some of the mini games. A new trailer to Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth was shown too revealing a bunch of characters and their moves.

Just Dance 4 had a new trailer and revealed the list of songs that’ll be found in the game including three exclusive Wii U tracks. The Girly Team – Ain’t No Other Man; Cher Lloyd featuring Astro – Want U Back; and Jessie J – Domino will all be exclusive to the Wii U. Hopefully you’re more thrilled than I am, I only know one of those songs…

Ubisoft also showed a new sports game called Sports Connection which includes tennis, football, baseball, golf and even karting. Their trailer showed various ways in which the Wii U Gamepad would be incorporated into the game in amongst all that family friendly high fiving we’ve become so accustomed to…

It wasn’t all Ubisoft however, there were other third party developers at the conference showing off their upcoming games. Namco Bandai showed off a trailer for Tank! Tank! Tank! which if you can excuse the horrible use of child actors displayed some decent examples of what could be pretty fun gameplay! Warner Bros released a new trailer for the upcoming Lego Lord of the Rings game that will be on the DS, 3DS, Wii and Wii U. And Sega revealed some new screenshots for Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed that revealed interesting gyro-controlled gameplay and some new characters including Joe Musashi from Shinobi, Beat from Jet Set Radio and Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe.

So that was that, no first party Nintendo news at this year’s Gamescom but at least some of the third party developers brought along some games for us to get excited over. What do you guys think, are any of these games piquing your interest?
