EA Responds to FIFA 13 Criticism

The FIFA 13 controversy is refusing to go away as many gamers are bemoaning EA’s decision to release a very familiar looking FIFA 13 on the Wii. And when I say familiar looking I mean it’s EXACTLY the same game as FIFA 12.

Because the Wii is nearing the end of its life cycle EA clearly didn’t think it was viable to develop a new game for the console instead opting to release the same game with a few minor tweaks (such as changing the number 12 to 13).

In an email to Wired, an EA spokesperson said FIFA 13 featured “the same great gameplay” and that they “felt it was important to continue to offer fans the opportunity to play an authentic football experience on Wii.”

So an admission and a supposed justification from EA effectively saying it’s the same game and it’s being released so fans can play it (and pay good money for it) if they only have a Wii.

To get an idea of what FIFA 13 looks like compared to its predecessor have a look at the comparison gallery provided by our friends over at Nintendo Gamer. It’s eye opening…

What are your thoughts on this issue? Will you be avoiding the Wii version this year?
