Charles Martinet Vox Pops Himself Onto Australian Television
Charles Martinet is about as recognisable to Nintendo gamers as Justin Bieber is to females under the age of thirteen. It’s safe to say then that reporters working for Channel 7 news over in Australia aren’t big Nintendo gamers then as during a vox-popping session, picking up the views of passengers at Melbourne Airport after a security breach, they failed to realise they’d just spoken to the voice of Mario himself!
What did Charlie have to say? Nothing too drastic:
“They just opened the gates and we were flooding through.”
Martinet did later comment on the article over on Vooks saying:
“I did a whole bunch in Mario voice! But they just used the one sentence…
I said “Australia is numba one!!!!”… the reporter and camera guy were great… but I think their producer just wanted a short thing. Too bad!”
How they didn’t run with “Australia is numba one!!!!” I will never know. Channel 7 you used to be cool… Having “Julia Gillard loses shoe and falls during India visit” casually scroll across the ticker is fine but not a grown man doing a Mario voice!? What happened?
Everyone was fine and managed to catch a flight out of there after it turned out the whole rigmarole over a “mysterious package” was just a false alarm.
