E3 Week – Through the Years: Nintendo at E3 2004
It has probably escaped no one’s notice but E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) is coming and we already know what Nintendo’s plans are; they are, in fact, replicating the incredible set-up they had last year with the Digital Presentation and Treehouse Live from E3. So if this is anything like last year, we are really in for a treat again in 2015.
For the third article of E3 Week, let’s step back even further than yesterday to 2004. Nintendo had released the Gamecube, and were continuing to drum out some incredible games for both their current home and handheld consoles. However, 2004 brought a game-changer to the market; the Nintendo DS.
Among the other incredible things shown at this conference, the DS sticks in my mind personally (looking back retrospectively) because of its legacy. I don’t think Nintendo realised it at the time, but they had just unveiled what would become the best selling handheld of all time. Add to this rapturous announcement the quality of some of the games announced too, plus this being Reggie’s first E3, you’ve got one hell of a conference.
