Arc System Works’ BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Confirmed To Be Coming To Nintendo Switch

I’ve waited a fair amount of time to finally be able to excitedly talk about fighting games here on Nintendo Scene, but there hasn’t been anything prominent (or fairly priced) enough for me to want to cover it. This changed over the weekend with Arc System Works releasing a new trailer for their crossover fighting game, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, with the last frame of the video announcing that it is coming to Nintendo Switch when it launches in 2018.

Cross Tag Battle is an anime-based fighting game bringing together characters from four different franchises, one of which hasn’t had a fighting game before. Obviously one of these is BlazBlue, one of ArcSys’ key franchises, of which so far we have confirmation of four key characters from the franchise as of the latest trailer (Ragna, Jin, Hazama and Rachel). Persona 4 Arena and Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late (st) are making their franchise debuts on a Nintendo platform, and also Under Night is also normally exclusive to Playstation too making Cross Tag Battle an interesting commodity and a great indication of ArcSys’ future intentions for Switch.

The final franchise is Rooster Teeth’s anime RWBY, making a fighting game debut. I’m not personally familiar with the anime itself, but the characters shown so far (Ruby and Weiss) both look incredibly fun and interesting to play and kind of make me want to watch the show. Furthermore, the RWBY characters (as well as the other franchises) all have fantastic static art and animations. The whole project is looking stunning so far, and the news of it coming to Switch can only help the game.

Altogether, the roster is looking great already and is only set to grow with more information supposedly due later this month. Needless to say, I’ll be keeping a closer eye on this game now that I know I will be able to play it on the go. I’ll be back with a Preview of the game as soon as I get my hands on it, whenever that might be. If you were interested in what is making me this excited, I’ve linked the second character trailer that posted over the weekend in this post.
