A Hat in Time is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 18th; Check Out the Trailer

The adorable throwback retro 3D platformer A Hat in Time is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 18th. After winning the hearts of PC gamers and PS4 and Xbox One owners when it released back in 2017, developers announced in 2018 that A Hat in Time would be coming to Nintendo Switch. While many like myself waited for the moment that an official release date would be announced developers Gears for Breakfast were hard at work optimising the Switch port of the game and have locked down an official release date of October 18th 2019.

After an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2013, A Hat in Time released in 2017 on PC to universal acclaim at the time of writing holding an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating in Steam reviews and at one point being in the top 5 of highest rated games on Steam.

Although reminiscent of Super Mario Sunshine, A Hat in Time has a lot more than just nostalgia to offer.

Developers Gears for Breakfast crafted A Hat in Time to pay homage to 3D platformers like Banjo Kazooie and Psychonauts. And while it wears its inspirations on its sleeve it manages to assert itself as it’s own game by avoiding the pitfalls that those games would fall into and innovating in areas like having varied styles of gameplay (From open world exploration, to murder mystery) and even having full mod support on PC.

Physical copies of the Switch version of A Hat in Time is coming with the first DLC package Seal the Deal which brought with it a whole host of extra content including an extra world, Co-Op play and a New Game+ challenge mode. This content is coming to Nintendo Switch before it even hits the PS4 and Xbox One and although digital copies will have to purchase this separately, it’s well worth it in my opinion.

Subcon Forest is a unique level that goes from ‘cartoonishly spooky’ to scary!

I’m maybe a little biased as I actually backed A Hat in Time back in 2013 on Kickstarter and I’ve been following its development the whole time. It’s exciting to know that come October 18th I’ll have A Hat in Time on the go and ready to play Co-Op with my friends.
